WING receives federal grant to curb drug trafficking problems

Posted: Updated:
The federal government has identified Scotts Bluff County as a high intensity drug trafficking area and to help curb drug problems, the Western Nebraska Intelligence and Narcotics Group (WING) has received a $59,000 grant.

Earlier this week at the Scotts Bluff County commissioners meeting, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman said the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) grant was received.

Overman said W.I.N.G would use the grant this year. Overman, who is the grant coordinator, told the board members that in the past the Scottsbluff Police Department had received the grant.

He said the department decided to give the funds to the county this year.

Overman went onto say that the grant will allow for more overtime, help buy vehicles if necessary and fund operations. He said the community has received the grant for the last 10 to 12 years.
