ServeNebraska week is over, but volunteers are needed year-round

Posted: Updated:
As ServeNebraska week winds down, officials want to remind locals that volunteering is a year–round priority.

ServeNebraska week was created to encourage Nebraskans to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. Governor Heineman promoted the week of service, inviting Nebraskans to join the volunteering.

Scotts bluff County Volunteer Center director Jill Allen says that volunteering should be something year–round, not only for a week. She says the feeling that people feel after volunteering is priceless.

"I hope they feel good," says Allen. "They feel like they're helping other people, and you know we all might be in that boat someday when we need help, so helping people now while we're able to help and it really makes a difference when you start doing these type of things and people are thanking you for your help and you're making a real difference in their lives."

Allen says there are countless opportunities to volunteer locally. If you would like more information on organizations seeking volunteers, you may contact Jill Allen at (308) 632-3736 or email her at
