YMCA's ‘Healthy Kids Day’ devoted to keeping kids active

Thousands of YMCA’s across the nation have designated today as ‘Healthy Kids Day’ including our local YMCA here in Scottsbluff.

Kids came out to the Y to scoot, jump, bounce, play and have fun, all in the name of good health.

Healthy Kids Day is a "national initiative to improve the health and well being of kids."

YMCA Fitness Director Lola Gonzales says in a time when childhood obesity is considered an epidemic, its important for kids to stay active.

She says parents also have a large role in keeping their kids healthy.

“A lot of the weight gain in kids is through the grades. Third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade. You can see that, it just happens. But if the parent keeps the kid active, well, it’s not going to happen and with programs like the YMCA has for all children, we’re going help keep our kids healthy.”
