Torrington police calls increased in 2013

The Torrington Police Department has released their 2013 annual report.
According to the report, calls for service have increased a significant amount, but serious crime has gone down.

Chief Billy Janes says that with the building of the prison, came more people moving into the community and with a larger population comes more serious crime.

The same did not prove true for Torrington, however.
"Serious crime for Torrington is usually the larcenies, the burglaries, rape. We've been lucky, very seldom do we have a homicide or robberies, but that serious crime (what the FBI calls a part one crime) has gone down."
Janes says he is hopeful that numbers will continue to decrease.
