Police find meth on passed out man with toddler in back seat

A local man is facing a variety of charges after police were dispatched to a broken down car.

On Saturday night Scottsbluff Police were dispatched to Riverside Park to give assistance, but instead found 26-year-old Joshua Larez passed out in the vehicle with a  3-year-old child in the car.

Officers could smell alcohol emitting from Larez, and observed an open case of Budweiser next to the child. They suspected more than alcohol was "causing his stupefaction," and they found methamphetamine hidden in a bottle cap that was in his sock.  Officers also found two glass pipes with burnt residue in the trunk.

When he was interviewed, Larez said he and his girlfriend had taken his son to go fishing. During that time he consumed several beers and a Xanax pill. He became tired and went back to the car to fall asleep. He says the meth belonged to his girlfriend.

Joshua Larez was arrested on the charges of child abuse, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. in Scotts Bluff County Court.
