WNCC gets a head start at National Walk at Lunch Day

Posted: Updated:
Western Nebraska Community College students and staff stepped away from their desks today to walk at lunch.

They were partaking early in National Walk at Lunch Day. The national day is designed to encourage people to walk and form healthy habits for a lifetime.

In Nebraska, participation has been growing every year. Last year saw approximately 57,000 people from schools, businesses, and families according to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

WNCC President Todd Holcomb says it is an important day to take part in.

"I think it's important for individuals to get out and be active and so many times we're sitting for hours and hours on end and it's good to get up, be active, particularly over the noon hour," says Holcomb. "We can get a good walk in. Fifteen, twenty, thirty minutes and get some activity that promotes health."

National walk at lunch day is on Wednesday.
