Government Affairs members ready for local debates tonight

Posted: Updated:
With last week's congressional debate concluding without a hitch, members of the Scottsbluff-Gering United Chamber are set for more rounds of debates.
There are three separate debates taking place Wednesday evening at the Scotts Bluff County's administrative building.

The first debate scheduled at 5:30 p.m. will be between candidates running for the County Treasurer position.

The second debate will begin at 6:15 p.m. for the Districts One and Three County Commissioner seats.

The third debate is for the District 48 State Senator's seat starting at 7:15 p.m.

Scottsbluff-Gering United Chamber Executive Director Karen Anderson says a lot goes on behind the scenes to organize the debates but every contributor is prepared.
"Generally we have to wait until everyone has filed to see what races are contested. The Government Affairs Committee works with a media panel, which is Star-Herald, KNEB, and KOTA-TV and the media panel conforms all of the questions. The candidates do not see the questions ahead of time."
The debates are free and opened to the public.
