Legacy of the Plains museum's new building to open in May

Posted: Updated:
Board members of the Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering are set to open the doors of a new building to the public next month.
Monday morning, during a news conference, Executive Director Katie Bradshaw and the museum's board members spoke about the major developments that will occur for the remainder of the year.

The latest addition to the museum includes the 10,000 square-foot Annex building just north of the main building. The Annex building will house several artifacts from both the North Platte Valley Museum and the Farm and Ranch Museum.
One artifact board members are excited to display is a World War One glider.

Bradshaw says she plans to have doors open by mid-May. Construction crews still have to lay cement throughout the building.
"We'll get the floor in, we'll get artifacts put in and we'll start inviting the public to come and see it. And we're targeting later this fall to open up the first of our new exhibits in the media gallery," said Bradshaw.
Bradshaw says this summer, visitors will not be charged a fixed admission but instead freewill donations will be accepted.
