Bruning looks to defend Nebraska Constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman

Attorney General Jon Bruning has filed a request with the Nebraska Supreme Court to present oral arguments in defense of the marriage provision of Nebraska's Constitution currently at issue in the Nichols v. Nichols case.

"In 2000, 70% of Nebraska voters chose to amend the Constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman," said Bruning. "The Nebraska Constitution is clear and I will defend it."


Article I

, Section 29 of the Nebraska Constitution provides, "only marriage between a man and a woman will be valid or recognized in the state of Nebraska ."
