Clinical trials for cancer patients soon to be offered at Regional West Medical Center

A non-profit organization from Omaha is looking to provide panhandle cancer patients an opportunity to help find cures.
Members of the Missouri Valley Cancer Consortium are offering local cancer patients a chance to participate in clinical trials at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

Program Director Mary Beth Wilwerding says offering the clinical trials locally allow patients to be familiar with their own surroundings.

She says these trials are the final steps in developing potential treatments for certain types of cancers or diseases.
"We collect that data and we share it with our physicians who are treating cancer patients and it helps them better understand the cancer process and what people go through and the things that they need to be in tuned to when taking care of cancer patients," said Wilwerding.
The clinical trials are expected to take place at RWMC by July first.
