Flash mob surprises Monument Mall shoppers

Posted: Updated:
Mall-goers at Monument Mall in Scottsbluff got quite a surprise this afternoon when nearly 40 kids broke out into a flash mob.
Saturday marked the end of National Dance Week and all across the world people of all ages are celebrating dance and promoting fun fitness in any way possible.

Performers of a dance group from the Carpenter Center in Terrytown performed their unexpected routine to visitors but also in front of several family and friends. Four minutes later, everything was back to normal.
After the kids dispersed, Beverly Bailey of Gering smiled with enjoyment.

"Yea it was very good, nice surprise," said Bailey, the grandmother of one of the dancers.
"They just told us a couple of weeks ago," said Andrea Lopez, a Gering resident and mother to Kamry Lopez a dancer. "Kamry got excited and we decided to come out and enjoy the dance."
Bluffs Middle School student and flash mob dancer Riley Schenewerk breathed a sigh of relief after the dance.

"I really enjoyed it. I was kind of a bit nervous about doing it at first. I'm really happy on how it turned out. I'm happy that we just got to do it and everything," said Schenewerk.
Dance Instructor Carrie Williams says the flash mob was a way for spectators to hopefully get up and dance too but the performance was to also thank those who have supported the center.
"It is to promote wellness and fitness, to promote the Carpenter Center and all that they do and (to promote) the United Way because without the United Way there would be no Carpenter Center and then there would be no dance lessons," said Williams.
Williams says the performance will be entered into an online dance contest for a chance for her dancers to win some money. For more information click the link below.
