Cinco de Mayo festivities moved to a later date

Posted: Updated:
Today is Cinco de Mayo, but with a date move, annual festivities may need to have a new name.

The traditional Scottsbluff May 5th celebration of a parade and entertainment has been moved to mid September. A scheduling conflict at the Guadalupe Center is the reason for the move.

The events have been moved to the week of September 14th.

"The new date seems fitting with September 16th being the original Mexican Independence Day from Spain," says event organizer Mary Ann Shockley.

Shockley also says that although the date has changed, the event will be just as enjoyable as it has been in years past.
