Chadron High School ranks #2 in the state

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. News and World Report ranked Chadron High School as number two in Nebraska.

"First of all we were ssurprised very surprised, ppleasantlyssurprised then quickly humbled," said Chadron High School Principal Jerry Mack.

Chadron High beat out 49 other schools in the state in rankings based on college readiness, math and reading proficiency, and student-to-teacher ratio.

Mack says he was surprised to learn of the ranking, because he didn't even know the data was being collected.

"We were in awe," he said. "There is no doubt that for a small, rural northwestern school, to have our name out or to represent the panhandle like that, we're very excited about it."

Mack attributes the high ranking to the professionalism of Chadron high school's students, the striving staff, and the school's approach to teaching.

"The approach we have with students is that out school is not about academics, in fact, we say our main priority at Chadron High School is simply taking care of the kids. And what we found as a side-effect benefit that comes with that is the test scores. Once the students learn to trust us and connect with us, then we're able to teach."

Mack says Chadron accepts the challenge of trying to maintain being one of the best schools in the state of Nebraska.
