Scottsbluff yard waste policy reversed after criticism

Posted: Updated:
The Scottsbluff City Council has chosen to reverse a much disputed policy.

A few weeks back the council decided to require those with yard waste to leave their bins curbside. After many considerations of alternatives brought forward by the public, the council has chosen to reverse the policy.

Those who live in Scottsbluff can now go back to placing their bins in the alley. The council did ask the public to help them make the transition back a smooth one.

After the announcement was made, Mayor Meininger had some suggestions for the public to make the job easier on truck drivers.

"If your yard waste container is full, then you put it towards the alley like it should be," says Meininger. "If it is not full and you don't want it dumped, then turn the wheels toward the alley. So if the wheels are towards your house or your fence, it'll get picked up. If the wheels are the other way, it will not."

The reversal will go into action on Monday.
