Lake Minatare Road grass fire quickly put out

Posted: Updated:
Local farmers and emergency crews say they are thankful for this week's rain showers after Tuesday's dry conditions caused the spread a small grass fire in one panhandle city.
Fire crews in Minatare were dispatched to a grass fire near Lake Minatare Road yesterday afternoon.

Minatare Fire Chief Tom Case says a farmer was burning a ditch in his yard when a gust of wind swept part of the fire over a highway and into a nearby field.

He says crews quickly put out the flames without a problem before the flames neared a hay bails.
Case says Tuesday night's rain was much needed and agreed that the chance of fires spreading should remain low this week.
