SD sex offender arrested after visiting Chadron police Department

A woman from South Dakota has been arrested for failing to register as a Nebraska Sex Offender.

Chadron police say on May 6th, 40-year-old Tammy A. Underberg went to the Chadron Police Department in reference to a landlord dispute. 

During her conversation with Officer Shane Sanders, she advised him that she was a registered sex offender from South Dakota and has been staying in Chadron for about a month and a half. 

Police confirmed Underberg's sex offender status in South Dakota arrested her for violating Nebraska Sex Offender registration laws by failing to register. 

Failing to register as a sex offender is a felony.

Underberg was required to register with the South Dakota Sex Offender Registry after a 2011 conviction of aggravated incest involving a 16 year old boy.

Underberg was taken to the Dawes County jail and has since been released.

Officers Shane Sanders says; “the Chadron Police Department actively enforces the sex offender registration laws in Nebraska. We make quarterly checks on all registered sex offenders living in Chadron to make sure they are in compliance. You can visit the Nebraska State Patrols website at where you can search by name, location such as city and state and by a region in your area for registered sex offenders. If you have information related to a violation of the Sex Offender Registration Laws in Nebraska, please contact your local law enforcement agency, or you can remain anonymous, by calling the Dawes County Crime Stoppers at 308-432-0519. You may also be eligible for an award up to $1000.00.” 

The Chadron Police Department was assisted by the Dawes County Attorney’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.
