I-80 reopens after storm caused closures

Posted: Updated:
I-80 has reopened in Nebraska and Wyoming after being closed by a snowstorm that boosted the mountain snowpack by more than 3 feet in some places.
Most of the interstate had been closed Sunday and Monday morning, stranding thousands of travelers. But as weather conditions improved, the route was open by 2 p.m. Monday and the interstate quickly became crowded with trucks that had packed area truck stops.
Public schools ranging from Banner County to Laramie County Community College were closed Monday, where up to 11 inches of snow fell.
The National Weather Service reported estimated snowfall of up to 43 inches in south-central Wyoming mountains.
The storm increased the statewide snowpack to 152 percent of normal.
