Heritage Estates Nursing Home hosts "Senior" Prom

Posted: Updated:

They say prom night only happens once in a lifetime, but a special set of local seniors get to re-live prom all over again.
Residents at Heritage Estates Nursing Home in Gering donned their ball dressed and tuxedos, and clipped on their corsages Monday night to celebrate "Senior" Prom.

And in true prom fashion, a king and queen were crowned.

101-year-old Louise Renzelman and 102-year-old Don Cummins were declared "Senior" Prom royalty in front of friends and family.

Heritage Estates hosts the prom each year, and Life Enrichment Coordinator Joan Hughey says it's a night residents look forward to it all year long.

"They look forward to prom, a lot of them have not been to their senior prom, so it's a first for them, they have a lot of fun, have their pictures taken, just like a real senior prom."

This year's theme was 'A Touch of Class' and all decorations were donated by the Scottsbluff High School's senior prom committee.
