Lit torch makes its way through Scottsbluff for Special Olympics

Posted: Updated:

A lit torch was carried through the streets of Scottsbluff and Gering as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The Torch Run takes place every year to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics.

This is only the second year public has been invited to join in on the run, and Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman says he enjoys the camaraderie.

"It's a lot nicer to have everyone involved, to have the public involved and make it a real community event than just being on some lonely stretch in the wind and with a torch in your hand running up and down hills. It's just a lot more fun."

Several Special Olympics atlhathletesticipated in today's run. The Special Olympics Summer games will be held in Omaha this June.
