Sidney school bond fails, again

Posted: Updated:

For the second time, voters in Sidney decide not to approve a bond measure for a new elementary school.
The $16.9 million dollar bond measure would have closed three local elementary schools and helped pay for construction of a new K-4 elementary school on land east of town.

The measure was defeated by a mere 64 votes, with 889 people for the measure and 953 against.

A similar measure was also declined by voters in a special election last September, where the decision was split by 105.

Superintendent Jay Ehler says the bond was needed to replace the current elementary schools, some of which are nearing 100 years old.
