Homesteaders museum is preparing for tourism season

Posted: Updated:
With the weather getting warmer, tourists are planning their trips for the summer. Museums all over the panhandle are getting ready for their busier season.

The Homesteaders Museum in Goshen County is among those museums preparing.

The museum has been open since 1925 and is home to hundreds of photographs, artifacts, and memorabilia.

Director Sarah Chaires says with the museum's age, their biggest concern for this tourist season is safety.

"We're working on adjusting accessibility and safety," says Chaires. "We are an almost 100-year-old building and our grounds need some work, so right now we're working on getting a handicap parking lot. We're getting new fencing in front of the museum."

Chaires says that the museum is also focusing on getting things cleaned up to fully prepare for the rush.
