Sidney man makes plea deal in manslaughter case

A Sidney man facing trial for the death of his father-in-law makes a plea deal in Cheyenne County Court.

Theodore Medina, 24, pled guilty Tuesday to amended charges of Attempted 2nd Degree Assault (a Class IV felony) and Third Degree Assault (a Class I misdemeanor).

Medina was originally charged with manslaughter after getting into a fatal altercation with his father-in-law, Ernie Ward, in early November. (more information can be found here:

Following the altercation, Medina was placed into Cheyenne County Jail where he then got into another altercation with an inmate and was charged with First Degree Assault.

Medina will be back in court at 8:30 a.m. on June 17th for sentencing.

He faces a maximum of 6 years in jail and $11,000 in fines for both charges.
