WNCC collegiate chorale to sing in New York

Posted: Updated:
Choir members of Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff are heading to the Big Apple.
22 members will perform at Carnegie Hall in New York this week for the Mid-America Productions' 30th Anniversary Series.

The group will be joined by other choirs including Nebraska Wesleyan University and Drake University of Des Moines.

Part of this year's music is to honor the liberation of the Nazi death camps 60 years ago. In addition, it's the 40th anniversary of Vatican II's document that condemned blaming Jews for the death of Christ.

WNCC members say it's an honor to perform on such a great stage.
"It's an incredible honor to be selected to go to this," said conductor Rita Stinner. "The way that this particular company works is the conductor is invited and that's a conductor that has a successful program so we're very proud of our program at WNCC."
Student Brayden Ryan says he's excited to return to perform.

"Being there where all the great voices have sang in America. Even ones from overseas have sang there. It's just like oh my God, I feel the presence...it's amazing. Nothing can describe how you feel while you're singing or after you're ever done."
WNCC has attended the event every other year since 1993.
