Scottsbluff zoo seeks summer volunteers

Posted: Updated:
If your high school student is still looking for a summer job the folks at the Riverside Discovery Center in Scottsbluff have summer volunteer and job opportunities available.
One way teens can help out is by becoming a Zoofari volunteer. Teens between the ages of 13 and 17 will shadow zookeepers and look after some animals.

Education Curator Kim Miedema says zoofari participants will also gain various life-long skills such as public speaking, responsibility, leadership, and what it takes to work in the zoological field.
"They get to learn all about those different animals and we've had quite a few previous zoofari students who have gone on and gotten PhDs and are now entomologists and vets all around the country," said Miedema.
The deadline to become a zoofari participant is on Monday, May 26th. Anyone interested can contact the zoo for more information. Application materials can be found on the Riverside Discovery Center's website (under camps) at
