Bayard woman arraigned on 11 theft counts

Posted: Updated:
A 70-year-old Bayard woman accused of stealing more than $23,000 dollars from the state has been arraigned on 11 counts of theft.
Judy Widener faces nine felony theft charges and two misdemeanor theft charges.

On Friday, in Scotts Bluff District court Widener's defense attorney told the judge that Widener would not enter any pleas to the charges until a decision on an appeal was made.

But district Judge Dobrovolny entered not guilty pleas to the charges for Widener saying that the outcome of the appeal does not require jurisdiction.

A pre-trial hearing is set for July 24th and a jury term for August 4th.
Widener is accused of taking charges from her clients between 2012 and 2013 as the Executive Director of Safe Haven in Gering.

She's free on 50-thousand dollar bond.
