Part of the Smithsonian will be making its way to Torrington

Posted: Updated:
One museum in Torrington is expecting a huge arrival that they hope will also attract more visitors.

Goshen County's Homesteaders Museum will soon be a temporary home to an exhibit from the Smithsonian.

The museum is currently under renovation to make way for the exhibit that comes in July. It is part of the traveling "Museums on Main Street" program to engage small town audiences.

Torrington is one of six communities in Wyoming getting the special exhibit.

Museum director Sarah Chaires says it is a very exciting time for the community.

"It's called journey stories and it's about American mobility, which works perfect in our community because we all have our own journey stories and the ways that different people came to our area are really interesting," says Chaires. "So what we're working on right now is creating a corresponding exhibit about our local history."

Chaires says the museum will still be open during the renovations.
