Officials have identified Lake Minatare drowning victims

Officials have identified two men who drowned at Lake Minatare on Sunday night.

Scotts Bluff County attorney Doug Warner said 19-year-old Dylan Peters and 23-year-old Chris Romey drowned after attempting to swim to a nearby island close to the lake.

Dive crews recovered one body shortly after 8 p.m. followed by the second body about 9 p.m.

Authorities responded to a call shortly after 7 p.m. of a report that one, possibly two people had not resurfaced after going underwater Sunday night.

Officials with the Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Scottsbluff and Gering dive teams, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's department, Minatare fire and police departments all took part throughout the night.
