Gordon woman facing federal charges on Social Security fraud

Posted: Updated:
A Gordon woman has been federally indicted by the U.S. District Attorney on a charge of converting Social Security funds.

Prosecutors allege that 44-year-old Michelle Renee Harris made an application to the Social Security Administration to receive survivor benefit payments for the use and benefit of her daughter from 2009 through 2012. Harris received the payments, but converted the payments for her own use, rather than the benefit of her child.

If convicted, Harris could be sentenced to five years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.
