Maag Headlines List of Outstanding Performances By Local Athletes at College Nationals
It was a pretty solid weekend for several local athletes at national college track meets.
Scottsbluff graduate Jennifer Maag continues her solid track and field career by earning two national championships at the NAIA national meet. The Hastings College Junior earned titles this past weekend in the discus and shot put, as well as a 3rd place finish in the hammer throw.
This season alone, Maag has earned three national titles (Two outdoor and one indoor), and four overall in her career. The Hastings team would finish 4th overall in the women's team standings.
Also earning All American status was Gering grad Stephanie Coley. The Concordia sophomore would finish fourth in the shot put behind Maag. Meanwhile, the Chadron State track team wrapped up their season with a solid finish at the Division II National Track Meet in Michigan.. Gordon/Rushville native Alyssa Norton would earn All-American status for the Eagles with top seven finishes in the discus. She just missed All American status in the shot put, finishing ninth overall.
In addition, Ashley Riesen would set a school record in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:32.51. Karl McFarlane and Gavan Archibald came up a little short of making the finals in hurdle events - if not for a hit hurdle both would have been in the finals.
Hemingford grad and last year's KOTA Terrtiory Fab Five Athlete of the Year Kelsey Wood scored over 4,000 points in the heptatholon.
