Riders take to their motorcycles to bring awareness for children

Posted: Updated:
Dozens of riders took to their motorcycles this morning for a good cause, hoping to pick up more crew members along the way.

To raise awareness for children’s mental health, the Eagle Riders will travel all across the state of Nebraska. Along their trip they will pick up letters of support from families and communities.

Sara Nicholson with the Nebraska Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health says that the trip is so much more than just a ride.

“And the eagle riders will (over the next three days) after picking up these letters, deliver them to the capital and we’ll have families and youth that will meet us there and they will actually deliver the letters to the governor. This year it’ll be a representative of the governor just to help identify those major issues around children’s mental health,” says Nicholson.

Rider Bill Primrose says that the satisfaction they get from the kids means more than anything.

“Just watching the kids and we look at the kids and sometimes it just tears your heart apart. And when you have one kid come up and say. ‘This happened two years ago. Mister this is the best day of my life when you guys showed up.’ It tugs at your heart,” says Primrose

As riders travel through the state they pick up others, making the group larger once the arrive at the capital.
