Chadron Police use Taser on reportedly suicidal man

Posted: Updated:
Chadron Police Chief Tim Lordino says officers were called to the 600 block of West 4th Street just before 10 a.m. Thursday with reports of a suicidal man.

Upon arrival, police made contact with the man and requested backup from the Nebraska State Patrol and Dawes County Sheriff's Department.

A press release states the man started threatening law enforcement, and Lordino says after several attempts to "peacefully resolve the situation, his threatening posture and remarks towards the officers subsequently resulted in Law Enforcement discharging a Taser."

A Taser is a non-lethal conductive energy weapon used to disrupt voluntary control of muscles causing a "neuromuscular incapacitation."

The male was taken into custody without injury, and transported to Chadron Community Hospital.

He is being evaluated fro a statutory "Emergency Protective Custody Hold."

The Chadron Fire Department also provided assistance.
