Gering Public Library kicks off summer reading program

Posted: Updated:
Today was the first day of the summer reading program at one local library.

Parents and kids raced out today to sign up for Gering's summer reading program at their public library. The program is created to provide incentives for those who read during the summer.

This year's national theme is "Fizz, Boom, Read."

It is not only for children, either. There is a teen and adult program that people can take part in.

Youth Services Librarian Christie Clarke says that summer means more free time, and reading is the way to fill it.

"They have nothing to do and they get bored and this is a very fun program for the entire family, not just kids. It's really important though for the kids to have something to do. To stimulate their brains over the summer. It helps them with their transition to school at the end of the summer," says Clarke.
