Sugar Rally teams attend rally school today

Posted: Updated:
Drivers for this weekend's Sugar Valley Rally got a crash course on what to expect by attending a rally school.
Participants gathered at the Harms Center Friday morning to receive instructions and safety precautions for Saturday's race.

The rally school is a required event for all race participants.

Two participants, Virgil Baker and his wife Carol, have participated in all races except one. They will be driving a 1930 Model A Coupe. The couple's best results have been winning the race and also finishing third but Virgil says the key to his success is just finishing and having fun.
"It's very hard to prepare, first of all you have to get the car, which is 84 years old, just getting your car ready and going from there cause you usually can't find anybody to work on them anymore. So I have to do all the work," he said.

More than 50 teams are participating this year. The rally begins Saturday at 8 a.m. on Broadway in Scottsbluff.
