Big summers events mean huge revenue payoffs for panhandle

With several big events happening this month in Scotts Bluff County comes huge revenue increases.
Scotts Bluff Area Visitors Bureau Director Brenda Leisy says June is a huge month for tourism in the county.

The Sugar Valley Rally wrapped up last weekend and this Saturday is the Cattlemen's Ball. Leisy says at least 4,000 people will attend the ball. Following that event is the Rock and Roll Father's Day Classic, the Travel Riders and Chautaqua 2014 the last weekend in June.

Leisy says although there's an increase in gas, food and shopping the biggest revenue benefits for tourism comes through the lodging tax.
"That's what a lot of people don't understand about tourism. But all of the money gathered from the tourism tax then of course comes in to our funds and that is the money we are able to give folks such as Sugar Valley Rally and the Father's Day Classic money so they can run their event," said Leisy.
Leisy says her office uses the lodging taxes to give monetary donations towards events to help with advertising.
