Lied Scottsbluff Library to kick off summer reading program

Posted: Updated:
The go–to place for readers in Scottsbluff is kicking off its summer reading program tomorrow.

The Lied Public Library is putting their finishing touches on this years' program. The national theme of "fizz, boom, read" encourages readers to take look at science related literature.

Librarian Deb Carlson says that this program is great to keep readers up to speed over the summer.

"We find, studies bare it out, that if they don't read over the summer, they backslide and it's very difficult for them and their teachers," says Carlson.

Librarian Melissa Pohl says that this reading phenomena holds true for teenagers as well.

"Especially for teens, they get so busy with everything else, that reading ceases to be as big a priority as when they're little. They're in sports, they're doing activities, they get jobs and it kind of falls behind," says Pohl.

Registration kicks off tomorrow morning at nine at the Lied Children's Library activity room.
