Posted: Updated:
Authorities say a 22-year-old man has been taken into custody following a standoff at a house in Gering.
The incident began early Tuesday morning at a house just south of Northfield Elementary School on Laurel Drive.

Family members indicated the male, who was possibly armed, was making threats and had barricaded himself in a room.

Gering Police requested assistance from the Scotts Bluff County SWAT team and negotiators.

Officers evacuated nearby residents because of reports that the man was possibly armed.

The SWAT team used tear gas in the bedroom where the man was barricaded. Scottsbluff Police equipment was used to enter the home shortly after, where the man was found unconscious.

He was taken into custody without incident, and transported to Regional West Medical Center for evaluation.
The man's name and other details about his standoff and apprehension have not been released.
