Eager readers flock to Scottsbluff library for kickoff of summer reading program

Posted: Updated:

Eager parents, grandparents, and kids wasted no time getting signed up for the Lied Scottsbluff Public Library's reading program Tuesday morning.

Lines began forming just after 8 a.m., full of kids ready to hit the books and spend their summer reading.

This year's theme is "Fizz, Boom, Read" and encourages young readers to take look at science-related literature.

At least 50 families got to the library Tuesday before the doors opened, including Scottsbluff resident Lorin King, who came to register his two sons, Max and Logan.

"They both love to read and we encourage it," King said. "And we just want to make sure they are both knowledgeable guys, and they enjoy doing it."

King said his sons read over 100 books last year, and are excited to get started again this year.

The library's summer reading program has been a hit in previous years, more than 1,700 kids participated in 2013.
