Midwest summer movie series brings out hundreds

Posted: Updated:
Today is the day the hard work of one local theater paid off.

Hundreds of kids rushed into the Midwest Theater for opening day of its Summer Movie Matinee series. The smell of popcorn was in the air as day cares and families shuffled to the auditorium.

Carisa Crawford, mother of two says it's great to spend this time with her children.

"I think the early morning matinees are good just to get the kids to do something fun," says Crawford. "And I like that they're specifically kid oriented. You can't take your kids to a different theater and have it be okay. People get really upset about the noise kids make and you can't just flop around and be a kid in a theater. These matinees allow that."

Volunteer Willa Kosman says that there is one showing that is busier than the other.

"If young parents are trying to decide which movie to come to, the morning is what I would bet on," says Kosman.

The movies will run every Thursday throughout the summer.
