Hundreds of local kids enjoy free swim lessons in Scottsbluff

Posted: Updated:
Kids in the panhandle are making a splash during their first week of summer vacation.
All this week swim instructors at the Scottsbluff YMCA are offering free swim lessons to kids in the area.

Swimmers learn the importance of water safety, ways to protect themselves in and around the pool and how to improve their swim skills.

On Thursday, swimmers learned how to kick on their stomachs and backs and how to float in the water.

Senior aquatic safety instructor Aaron Fabel says nearly 200 kids signed up for this week's lessons.
"A lot of these kids, this is the first time they've ever had swim lessons before and for some of these kids this is the only swim lessons that they'll have this year and so we're trying to grasp both and introduce them to the aquatic environment and also prepare them for our regular swim lessons that will kick off next week," said Fabel.
Friday will be the last day for splash week but regular swim lessons kick off next week at the YMCA.
