Petitioners begin push for minimum wage increase

Local efforts are underway this week to increase Nebraska's minimum wage to nine dollars an hour.
During this week's Scotts Bluff County Democratic Convention, Ryan Griffin spoke about efforts to create a ballot measure for voters.
Democrats are spearheading a signature petition drive to ensure the minimum wage issue gets onto the November ballot.

Griffin is working on the Chuck Hassebrook for Governor campaign, and says minimum wage is an issue that he feels strongly on.
"But we know it is an issue that Republicans want to shy away from in the fall," explains Griffin, "So by putting it on the ballot, it is going to be out there. It is an issue that Pete Ricketts and Ben Sasse and all the Republicans are going to have to talk about."
Seven percent of all Nebraska voters have to sign the petition by July 3rd on order for the minimum wage issue to advance to the November ballot.
