Chilly start to 18th Street Farmers' Market

Posted: Updated:
Some people call it the "summer" farmers' market but it felt more like fall Saturday morning in Scottsbluff at the start of the event.
Several vendors displayed their crafts and locally grown food items to kickoff of the annual 18th Street Farmers' Market.

Vendor Allen bates owns Styria Bakery based out of Denver. He and his partner left around two Saturday morning just so they could sell their pastries and breads here in Scottsbluff. Bates says he enjoys attending farmers' markets and supporting local communities.
"It helps build community business for the local community and for us. I have a big bakery business in Denver but I don't run a store there, all I do is go out and do things like this in little communities and all throughout holiday shows, craft shows, farmers markets and sell our breads," said Bates.
Participants at this weekend's farmers' market said it was a great opening weekend and are looking forward to coming next weekend.
