Escaped Wyoming inmate sentenced to 31 years for Scottsbluff assaults

A Morrill man has been sentenced to spend the next 31 years behind bars after getting convicted in April on charges of assault of a police officer, felon in possession of a firearm, and resisting arrest.

26-year-old Adrian Sosa was sentenced at 8 a.m. by Scotts Bluff District Judge Leo Dobrovolny. Sosa was also convicted of being a habitual criminal, which enhanced the prison sentencing.

The charges stem from an incident at a Safeway grocery store in early December.Law enforcement officers say they attempted to arrest Sosa in the store on an outstanding warrant after he escaped from a Wyoming Prison work camp.

When police approached Sosa in the store, he became physical, injuring two officers. Police also recovered a gun that Sosa had during the scuffle; it eventually took a tazer and three officers to subdue Sosa.
A fifth charge of possession of a controlled substance was dismissed before trial began this morning.
