Posted: Updated:
Governor Heineman has the very latest on the progress of the "Build Nebraska Act," which includes the Heartland Expressway that will go through the panhandle.

This act provides funding for state highway capital improvement projects, from a portion of the state's sales tax. The projects have been organized in three tiers which will be completed over a period of ten years.

The Heartland Expressway is part of tier two which be completed between 2016 and 2019.

Governor Heineman says that things are running fairly smoothly.

"All of these projects are making significant progress and I would just ask the patience of all the people who travel them everyday," says Heineman. "When it's completed we're all going to be happy, but I know as we go through the construction phase, it can be a challenge. But again, they're all underway and moving forward in a very positive direction."

Heineman says that good roads are crucial for economic growth and public safety in the panhandle.
