Scottsbluff man arraigned on child sexual abuse charges

A 67-year-old Scottsbluff man has been arraigned on three felony sexual abuse of a child charges in Scotts Bluff County Court.

Rudy Perez was charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of 1st degree sexual assault of a child (12 or older, under 16 years old).

Court documents say the investigation began in April after one of the victims told her mother about the sexual assaults. A series of CAPStone interviews was conducted, and Perez was arrested on Wednesday on a warrant. One of the two victims was only 10 years old when the alleged assaults first occurred.

Perez has denied touching the girls.

Today during his arraignment, bond was reduced from $500,000 to $150,000. Defense Attorney Maren Chaloupka cited a clean criminal record and strong ties to the community as reasons for the reduction. Chaloupka says it is likely that they will waive a preliminary hearing in County Court before the matter is sent up to District Court.

If convicted on these alleged crimes, Perez could face a minimum of 20 years behind bars.
