Gering receives Brownfield funding for environmental assessments

Posted: Updated:

A grant of $200,000 dollars will be coming to the city of Gering to fund environmental assessments.
The money comes from the Environmental Protection Agency's Brownfield Program, and is a successful step in the city of Gering's redevelopment mission.

The Brownfield Program provides funding to communities for redevelopment, by helping to provide 'clean dirt' sites to welcome new businesses and development.

Mike Sarchet with Twin Cities Development says there are a few specific areas have been targeted for the program.
"We've been talking about our corridor of disconnect that separates Scottsbluff, Terrytown, and Gering rather than connects us. And our goal is to find ways that we can not only improve the appearance, but more importantly the usefulness of this."
The $200,000 dollar grant will also go towards hiring consultants to look at how to improve the corridor.
