Veterans want public to see the importance in the American Flag

Posted: Updated:
The american flag is more than just a piece of cloth, say our local veterans.

Today is flag day, which celebrates the adoption of the United States flag, nearly 240 years ago.

In 1916, President Wilson issued a proclamation which officially established the 14th as flag day. Director of veterans services John Brehm says he hopes everyone, not just veterans can see the importance in the holiday.

"The importance of it is, we have to respect our flag," says Brehm. "I feel it's a very important part of our lives, especially as a serviceman. And what I think the public needs to do, is we need to show more respect to the flag."

If you have a torn or tattered flag, please bring it to the veterans service office to have it disposed of properly.
