Festival of Hope has another successful year

Hundreds came out today to show their support for those struggling with cancer.

The 12th annual Festival of  Hope helps raise money for cancer patients in the panhandle. The funds are used to pay for non–medical related expenses such as gas, groceries, and rent.

Publicity chairperson Sandy Romisch says that even the most basic things can be helpful to a person battling the disease.

"People need help and that's really a hard thing for a lot of people to ask for is help," says Romisch. "And if we can just ease the mind and take a little bit of the burden off somebody when they're going through the worst time of their life, it makes everything we do worthwhile."

A small portion of the funds raised is used toward education and research.

Cancer continues to be a leading killer among people in the United States.
