Trial for alleged Mitchell meth dealer to get underway Monday morning

A jury trial for one of the two men arrested in a January meth bust is set to begin this morning in Scotts Bluff County District Court.

25-year-old Joseph Lowery is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Police tracked down Lowery's vehicle in Mitchell, and searched the home it was parked in front of.

Lowery was found hiding in a back bedroom, and a large quantity of methamphetamine was found in the room as well.

The jury trial is expected to last two days, and if convicted of the Class II felony, he could be facing a prison sentence ranging from 1 to 50 years.

Earlier this month, the state dismissed charges against 27-year-old George Valles, who was also arrested in that bust. A judge ruled that an illegal search was conduced on Valles' locked bedroom, where authorities found a massive amount of methamphetamine.
