RWMC takes steps to eradicate pigeon population

Posted: Updated:
Some unwanted guests at Regional West Medical Center are prompting hospital staff to take precautionary measures.

Pigeons have been an ongoing nuisance at Regional West, the birds like to roost in windowsills and overhangs on several buildings on the medical campus.
Staff say the birds could pose a health risk to patients and visitors, so later this week representatives from the USDA will be working to eradicate the hospital's pigeon population.

USDA contractors will begin removing pigeons during the night time hours beginning Tuesday, June 17,, and will continue the extermination periodically throughout the year.

Nets were installed along the windows of the hospital's North and South Towers last year to deter birds from roosting in the ledges.
