Mitchell native offers California art workshops to public

A Mitchell native is returning home from California to teach animation and photography workshops to art lovers in the panhandle.
Erica Larsen-Dockray and her team of artists from CalArts are visiting Mitchell and Scottsbluff for the next two weeks.

On Monday, they taught kids how to create an animated video using a camera and lego figures.

Larsen-Dockray says she wanted to share her creativity with panhandle artists who may be unfamiliar with the work.
"This is kind of like bringing L.A. to Nebraska and western Nebraska. Hopefully people are open to that and just checking it out and seeing how we do stuff over there which is a lot more experimental and playful and we just like to make stuff," she said.
June 16th - 20th there is an Animation 1.0 classes for participants ages 7 and older. The classes are from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Inventive Media in Mitchell. A second session will be offered June 23-27th.

Continuing with the animation theme, another class for ages 9 to 15 years-old will be offered from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. from June 16th to 27th.

A photography class will be offered for people ages 16 and older from June 24th to the 27th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Western Nebraska Art Center in Scottsbluff.

Free screenings of the latest CalArts movies will happen on Saturday, June 21 at 3:00 p.m. at the Nile Theater in Mitchell. Another screening will happen on Monday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Midwest Theater in Scottsbluff.
